Levi looked as if he’d been punched in the face.
Elliana laughed and clapped him on the shoulder.
“Relax. Stop staring at me like that. Everything’s going to come out eventually—just be patient and watch it all unfold.”
“But I’m done answering questions tonight,” she added.
“I’m exhausted and I need sleep.”
Once they were clear of the Thompson estate and walking toward the car, Levi kept glancing back at the mansion as if expecting something more to happen. He couldn’t quite believe what Elliana had said.
Inside the house, long after Elliana and Levi had left, the atmosphere had shifted. The calm had been replaced by a tense, unsettled energy. Words whispered behind closed doors. Phones buzzed. People gathered in small clusters, trading versions of what had occurred.
Kaleb stood in the living room, hands clenched at his sides, his jaw tight with thought. Edgar rested quietly, attended by a nurse, while Elsie moved slowly from room to room, checking on the staff and muttering to herself.
Amilia and Karlee had been taken to the basement to reflect, but their absence only left a strange void. The servants exchanged looks of relief and unease in equal measure. Some worried about the fallout. Others felt vindicated that the truth—whatever it might be—had finally been exposed.
As dusk fell over the estate, the Thompsons found themselves facing questions they had long avoided. Old grievances surfaced, loyalties were tested, and the fragile veneer of harmony that had always protected the family began to crack.
Outside, the night closed in. Inside, the Thompson household braced for the consequences of a single, explosive revelation.
The Thompson family’s daughter had been switched at birth—and for decades none of them had suspected a thing. They had poured all their love into the wrong child, raising an impostor as their own. The truth hit like a storm, leaving a stain deeper than anything the Thompsons had ever endured.
The moment Elliana and Levi left, Edgar’s fury burst loose. His hand crashed against the table, sending his teacup flying, and he doubled over in a harsh, rattling cough.

Elsie hurried to steady him.
“Please don’t let anger take over. Dr. Atkinson said he might be mistaken. We must stay clearheaded. What matters most is finding the truth.”
” Dad, I’ll arrange a DNA test for Amilia right away,” Kaleb said, firm but calm.
“Please try to stay calm. This might not be what we think it is.”
Jenifer, however, spoke with a blunt honesty.
“Actually, Edgar, if Amilia turns out not to be your biological daughter, it might be a relief. Amilia has been stubborn and wild since she was small—she never acted like she inherited either of your temperaments. If she isn’t your daughter, then at least you won’t blame yourselves for not guiding her properly anymore.”
Surprisingly, her words eased some of Edgar’s tension. For years Amilia had disappointed him again and again. If she weren’t his blood, he could finally breathe—free of the guilt that he had somehow failed her as a father.
